Before you take the plunge, log on to... Scuba STAR Network
Safety Tracking And Reporting Welcome to Scuba STAR Network! We are an independent organization dedicated to improving safety for divers, and increasing awareness of procedural and equipment issues within the diving community as a whole. We provide safety-related information, recommendations, and guidance to divers, certification agencies, dive centers, resorts and equipment manufacturers.
We Need Your Input! The primary means by which we collect information is through our anonymous incident reporting system. Modeled after NASA’s Aviation Safety Report System for pilots, Scuba STAR Network’s Diving Incident Reporting Form provides a mechanism through which divers can report incidents, near misses, and other safety concerns. We urge all divers to participate in the Scuba STAR program to help us achieve our goals of enhanced diver safety.
Scuba STAR also conducts bimonthly Safety Surveys that focus on specific equipment and procedural issues. These quick surveys are designed to help us learn more about the problems divers face. The results of these surveys are used to help guide the efforts of the diving research community, as well to bring potential risk factors to the attention of divers, dive operators and manufacturers.
Among the services we provide are up-to-date listings of recalled scuba equipment and equipment safety notices. Please check our Recalls listing to ensure that the equipment you currently use is not the subject of a US Consumer Product Safety Commission recall.
Our Notices section contains additional information regarding potentially faulty equipment, as well as information on a variety of other safety-related concerns.
The data we collect is of little value unless it can be correlated and the results shared with the diving community. We accomplish this in several ways. First, the results of our Safety Surveys will be posted on the Survey Results section our web site. More in-depth reviews of the data are published in Divers Alert Network’s Alert Diver magazine and other safety-minded publications. Finally, annual safety reports will be published and made available through a variety of outlets. Check the Publications section of our web site to learn about this and other publications available from Scuba STAR Network.
The Divers Dialogue is a new section where we post letters and comments from divers. If you have something interesting or important to share, please contact us.
Please take a look through our site. If you don't find what you are looking for, please let us know so we can continue to improve our products.
